OIL AGA'S OBSOLETE! This
email received from one of Peter Dewdney's customers in Northern
Ireland
"Barry,
Peter fitted a new Snugburner in my old Aga OC Oil Cooker. First class, just thought I
would let you know the fuel burn results (by the way I am a retired Engineer).
Running the cooker 24 hours per day it is using 31.9 litres per 7 days which is
exactly as per your brochure. It was using 58 litres per week with old Don
burner that is Some saving. I am delighted and it has also solved the problem of sooting which has occurred with the change of Kerosene. You have a winner with
your product and given me peace of mind and I will get my money back. Well done
and your man in N Ireland is a great fellow. Regards HB"
most of our customers will tell you more/show off their installation. Ask for details -see a near one to you on our map on www.snughomecookers.co.uk trade section
Sarah Kennedy , late of BBC Radio 2 Dawn patrol, told us - as well as
the Daily Telegraph - that Aga's all over the country are going out due to low
Sulphur oil blocking the oil line! We have been telling you for 5 years! There
is ONLY one answer if you want to keep your Aga - or oil fired Rayburn OF7 or
OF22- www.snughomecookers.co.uk
This is a Kookwood 3 oven cooker - designed to burn WOOD! made by Sandyford in Derby -a quality cooker! Boiler option for 8 rads - or dry - about £4000 without boiler, £4500 with-ANY colour - ask me more!
So What Fuel should you go for in your Range
Cooker?
Let's go through them. Firstly your location- if in a mid terrace an oil
tank / log store is out of the equation!
OIl.
You need a tank ideally higher than the cooker base so the oil flows
down to it. Yes you can pump it but add £500 to the cost -and it needs
electricity to work. Tanks to be double skinned (bunded) to meet regulations in
most cases, and sat on proper base. Oil line into house, usually underground.
Chimney required for cooker - or Powerflue. If no brick chimney man made
possible but you need Planning. Power supply to cooker in most cases.
Cooker burning
efficiency - wick burner 50%, Snugburner (PJ type) 85%+
Gas .Ideal if you have a piped
supply- i.e town place. Clean, less servicing. Needs a chimney as oil (see
above) unless a balanced or powerflue type - not convertible if another version.
Yes, you CAN fit a central heating gas cooker that ISN'T condensing ( unlike a
boiler) despite what your Gas Safe plumber ( he MUST be reg by law) says - he
just doesn't know about cooker boilers that's all! Be careful - most central
heating gas Rayburns are obsolete and spares tricky to get - no "cobbling "
allowed now!
Fuel cost similar to oil - low efficiency as well with atmospheric
burners that have a pilot light.
Solid fuel. Own a wood? Have time to cut, stack, dry logs? Most people don't but remember you get warm twice - once cutting, second time burning! Coal better as easily stored and delivered to you. Cost - cheapest way to run an Aga.Servicing - monthly but do it yourself. Proper chimney needed -most expensive type- annual sweep vital. Fire needs topping up twice a day (Aga), every few hours (wood, Rayburn). Biggest problem - dust and labour!
LPG. Bottled gas, biggest rip off. Made from oil hence name (liquid petroleum gas or largest prices going) always much more expensive. Advantages over other fuels - sorry can't think of any! Submarine in garden cheaper than bottles but tank cannot be hidden, or covered by plants .
Electricity. similar to gas but no flue problems. Less maintenance. Early days yet for central heating from cookers. OK for Aga's - costs about the same to run as the others. Not available on Rayburns at all.
The market has spoken and I am inundated with
demand for SOLID FUEL Rayburns. Let's explain what's going on!
From about 1990 the demand for solid fuel dropped away to
zero. The country was buoyant, borrowing easy and both partners went out to work
- so a coal burning cooker that goes out during the day wasn't a good idea- so
it was replaced with a gas or oil boiler. The second hand market for coal
cookers was slow so a lot went to the tip - and the spares firm's lost interest
in selling parts to a declining market. We were just the same - occasionally I
would service a "faithful old retainer's" Rayburn, fitting new bricks and
grates etc but the demand was gone - along with the ash, dust and mess of solid
fuel!
Now its back - simply because of the high fuel prices. So what can YOU do about
it
(a) If you REALLY want a coal cooker answer the following questions
Are you in long enough to feed the fire - at least twice a day (non central heating versions) 4 times a day say Nouvelles,355 or MF 216 versions
can you cope with a cold bedroom at 6 am when the fire went out - someone forgot to fill it last thing at night!
do you mind dusting - a lot?
Will your environmentally friendly dustmen - sorry recycling operatives, take away a 1/2 dustbin of ash each week? Or do you want a "rockery?
If you have an unwanted Supreme - Nouvelle- 355 Rayburn - with the up /down riddler on left of the ashpit door -we may buy if in the mood!
Our friend Keith has developed a HIGH OUTPUT wood / coal burning cooker - the same size as the Alpha or his Sandyford - with 3 ovens called the MARSHALL. It's available at £5500 + vat and should heat up to 15 rads on good fuel. Ask me for more details! Fully enamelled in most colours We developed the oil Snugburner to overcome the high fuel cost - high maintenance of solid fuel - and it works! That fits in SMALL Rayburns - the 208, OF7 and OF22 - and Oil Aga ,Nobel only. But if you REALLY want to go "back" to solid fuel buy my 3 e-books telling you all you need to know about solid fuel cookers- from buying them, moving them and maintaining them ! See www.ebooks-on-howto.com for a compilation deal!

RAYBURN GAS COOKERS.
